Jury’s Out
I changed to Suzuki after years of Peugeot ownership - all diesels. So far, there have been several annoying issues which have detracted from my overall enjoyment of what is a fun and quirky styled car to drive. The radar braking system regularly flashes up warning messages that its inoperative - mainly when a few drops fall, obscuring the sensor. It has also kicked in and applied the brakes when it was not needed (lead car on a dual carriageway way with a tailgating car behind). A Suzuki dealer will need to examine it now. Also, my work driving is of the stop/start shorter city journey type, and that has brought up the DPF warning light - never an issue with my Peugeot diesels. To regenerate it, you have to drive at a constant minimum 40 MPH for at least 20 minutes, which is a real pain to do in clogged up roads city like Nottingham. I am now having to do this once a week to try to avoid the issue repeating. Trim and controls (particularly interior plastic around doors, knobs and levers in cabin) are not the sturdiest, and some trim under the glove box has already come away. I have strong doubts areas of it will last the course in a car used for work (dog walking - dogs behind dog guard in back). Doors feel insubstantial and tinny on closing and my main worry, in my work, is the rear door opening mechanism will fail at some point with a dog behind it. Plus points? Great touch screen, excellent driving position, decent MPG (47 around town) fun if not a little harsh to drive, and that feeling of not driving something everybody else does. If it holds up reliability wise, I will be pleased I made the change. But it is too early to tell just yet.
