Suzuki Vitara (2015 on)
1.4 Boosterjet S Allgrip 5dr SUV
This is the car for me!
12 months on from a new purchase the Vitara has just had its first service at a very reasonable basic cost of £162 plus an optional extra of £15 for Fuel Treatment. My wife & I are in our early 70's and we have only done 5500 miles in the year but we both find it very easy to drive and have enjoyed doing so. Some of the highlights are the excellent turning circle, very light clutch and the wonders of the reversing camera!
There has been criticism of the radar brake support being too sensitive, but we find it only happens occasionally and we have not been unduly troubled by parked cars. On two occasions when the camera became blocked with firstly snow and then mud, a warning comes up to say that the system is temporarily disabled. We find the adaptive cruise control a great boon on long journeys, and the ability to alter the set speed marginally up or down is a great advantage.
We have been delighted with the very peppy performance of the Boosterjet and you have to be very careful of speed limits particularly if you switch to the Sport setting. The Snow setting works very well in slippery conditions and with all weather tyres fitted I am sure you could go up any slope.
The brightness and excellent spread of the dipped headlights has made a great difference to us for night driving and we are much more confident now.
Any criticisms? - At first the steering seemed very light compared to our previous car but you adapt to this fairly quickly. The 'infotainment' touchscreen is a shade slow to react but the satnav is good as is the allround visibilty. The screen providing average fuel usage etc info is not the best quality and some of the symbols are not that easy to read and it is difficult to get to grips with how to operate it but perhaps that is an age thing.
I have no reservations in recommending this car and would always advise going for the Boosterjet engine.
