Overall reliability

A good rugged, solid car

Having owned a van for the previous 2 years, it was quite a luxury to come back to a car, and the Vitara certainly lived up to the reviews on HJ.
Overall I'm very impressed with the build quality of the car, and would agree with other owners re wind, road noise and a little sluggish on hills, but the ride, comfort and equipment certainly make up for it.
I note another owner commented on the 'clunky' gearbox. Mine too isn't as smooth as my wife's Alto, so asking about this at the Suzuki dealer, was told it's due to the Vitara having a 'cable selection gearbox which is less direct than a push/pull rod system'. I await further detail on this one.
This brand has scored highly on owner satisfaction for reliability, and I'd certainly agree with that.
