Hi everyone,

I've seen another post about about this but it's a year or so old, so i though it would be worth checking for more recent info. I've taken my car to the garage due to acceleration issues mainly at higher gears, the car struggles to maintain pace on the motorway i'm in the slow lane doing 60 mph especially when there's a slight incline. There is also a light engine rattle.... Read more

I have an almost three year old puma with the ecoboost, it’s my third ford with this engine with no problems at all, ( checks out of window expecting to see mushroom cloud over garage), but because of the views expressed on here and other sites, I’m not sure I’ll keep it long after the warranty has expired, it’s a great car though, easily gets 50+mpg,

I was told today by a friend who’s 1.0 T-DGi Hyundai engine failed that it’s becoming a widespread issue due to cam chain catching the cam cover.

Anyone have more information?

Have Hyundai got a permanent fix?

His car was towed into the dealers at the weekend, service centre rep told him they diagnosed the problem within a few minutes once they realised it was the 1.0 T-DGi model.
It’s a ‘known issue’.

Hello everyone, I'm on the lookout for a 2012-2017 Civic with a top budget of 5k-5.5k ish so mainly looking at pre 2015 cars.

My preference was a 1.8 petrol but I read on a few forums about excessive oil use in earlier models due to faulty piston rings but there was no definitive answer on what years were effected. Due to this I've also looked at 1.4 petrols but not sure if these were also the same, there's also some.1.6 diesels within price range. The 1.8 I thought would be the sweet spot for economy/performance/reliability. Has anyone here driven the 1.4 for comparison? ... Read more

I have a 1.4 Civic also VTEC SE, what is BHP on this? Surely more than regular? I’m currently gapping audi A4’s & A5’s etc in this with no indication of mods on this car when I bought it. Year 2015. Let me know thoughts!

Your 1.4 Civic has 100bhp @ 6000rpm and 127nm of torque @ 4800rpm. VTEC and SE have no relevance because all 1.4 Civics of that age used exactly the same engine.

As for 'gapping' A4's and A5's, has it occurred to you they may not be interested in racing you and are not using full throttle?...

Hi, I've found this forum through an online search whilst trying to understand the cause of the problem.

I have two keys for my VW Polo. The key with a remote (which I have always used) has suddenly stopped working. It will turn the car over but won't start, two warning lights appear on the dash - diesel engine pre glow and the other is a car and key symbol. ... Read more

Maybe the battery in the key with the remote has leaked and caused damage to the immobilisation chip circuitry. Maybe worth opening the fob and seeing if there is any chemical residue which you could clean out.

I filled up my diesel car on Thursday and I did keep adding more when it was tripping the stop signal a couple of times.

Got in the car and the fuel gauge had not moved to full, it was 80% full before filling up., So something is wrong.... Read more

For information, it all works, disconnected the battery and touched live and N cables for 10 secs and reconnect the battery and it worked. Now showing full.

Car radio asked for keycode that I have in the service book.

My budget is £10k. Diving not much (max 3-5 k a year), mainly commuting and shopping on short distances. Looking for a SUV with petrol engine. I wish to have AT, however for newer models this would be much more than my budget.... Read more

If you are sitting on the cash at the moment, with inflation at 10% or more, it doesn't really make sense to delay a major purchase unless there are serious reasons against it.

It might do if you don't need the car straight away and a big market correction is about to take place (when the big recession really hits)....

Thank you and good point. Fortunately, it has to be said that I don't frequently have to drive into central cambridge. As far as I was aware non compliant diesels face a daily charge in ULEZ? If this is fair to say rather than an outright ban, then I might not have to be too concerned about it. Although certainly something to bear in mind.

I will keep a a look out for Dacia Logans as they look solid unfortunately none are available on autotrader in my immediate area right now..

We have been looking for a car for my son. We’ve settle upon a 2019 Audi A3.
The car is from a used car dealer not a franchise. The building and facilities look very respectable.
When we performed a HPI check the vehicle is showing outstanding finance. It is described as Unit Stocking with BMW finance for a 5 month period.
I personally have come across this before and was not concerned as I was buying the vehicle using dealer finance, using the assumption that a finance company would not provide finance on a car that is already financed. My worry is that we are paying cash therefore there is nothing to force the dealer to make immediate settlement.
I’ve read that as we are buying from a dealer in good faith, legally the liability stays with the dealer and the car becomes clear and the lender chases the dealer for the money.
Is this correct or should I be worried?
I guess we could finance the car forcing the dealer to immediately settle but not sure if this is all necessary.
Thank you in advance for your comments. Read more

This was one of the issues I was concerned about but it seems the funder would lose title.

I found this article that covers it half way down the page:...

I've noticed some Focus MK2's are looking a bit rusty on the front wings. It's the section where the sweeping extrusion shape of the metal meets the bumper. Mine (2006) is spotless but a friend has a 2008 model (just before the MK2.5 came out) and hers is bad on one side to the extent the metal has almost holed. I've seen others as bad or worse. I began to investigate why this should be.

I had a good look at mine and shining a torch down beside the headlight could see some very light rust just beginning on the inside of both wings so decided to act quickly. before it gets worse. Some detective work with a watering can revealed the problem. What is happening is rain flows down the windscreen, then down the wing rain channels (the bits you see when the bonnet is up), then towards the front of the wing and drips down and collects, trapped in the wing. The shape of the metal at that point does not allow the rain to drain away so it sits. ... Read more

I have always wanted a Mini as a fun 2nd car - that's all it would be used for, generally at the weekends and enjoying the drive. As such then I don't want to spend the earth on one but wondered if anyone with either experience of them or in the trade (where are you SLO76?) could advise on what may be ok and what is worth avoiding.

I am probably looking at pre 2013 Cooper S, so the1.6 petrol with 173ish BHP as I understand that the 2.0 engines were only for post 2013 models. Ideally I would have liked an auto but something tells me that's worth avoiding given the age of the car. ... Read more
