I was told today by a friend who’s 1.0 T-DGi Hyundai engine failed that it’s becoming a widespread issue due to cam chain catching the cam cover.

Anyone have more information?

Have Hyundai got a permanent fix?

His car was towed into the dealers at the weekend, service centre rep told him they diagnosed the problem within a few minutes once they realised it was the 1.0 T-DGi model.
It’s a ‘known issue’.

Is it only on the 1L model or the 1.4 T-GDI as well? Is it all versions of the engine or just those made between X and Y, given they do get updated from time to time.

Hyundai/KIA have certainly kept this news quiet - I've not read anything on the Interwebs on it until you reported it today.

Hopefully they can resolve it, and I presume it'll be done under their warranty or as goodwill for those outside, given the severity of the issue.

His is the 1.0 in a Kona, 69 plate, 18,000 miles on the clock
