Volkswagen Up (2012 - 2023)
SL320 R129
Always wanted one from a lad.
Love the car. Its solid, totally practical with the hard top fitted. Great with the roof down. Very quiete whilst using the soft top. Comfortable and everything you would expect from an older genration Mercedes. Fully loaded with all the toys. Corning is OK, but I am no boy racer anymore and simply enjoy the comfort and the way it soaks up the bumps on the road. Engine responsive and great for everyday use. Although I would of sought to get a low mileage SL500 if I had done more homework as the performance is considerabley better, but there is negligable difference in fuel economey according to all the figures I looked at. Fuel ecomomy not bad on a constant run, but not brilliant otherwise. However you dont buy one of these and cry about the cost of running it. To me its cherished and I invest a lot of time and money trying to keep as near to the condistion as it rolled out of the factory from new. I just want preserve the use of this car for future generations to enjoy if/when its sold on.
These cars can be maintaned reasonable by a good Mercedes specialist. This is key to keeping them as near to pristine as you can at a more reasonable cost. However you the limiting factor here is parts.
Parts are expensive and some like rocking horse doo dah to locate. Factory alarm is abismal. Replaced it with a Clifford Thatcjam Cat 1 due to all the false triggers everytime a gust of wind blew past and it finally gave up the ghost so it was a good oppertunity to rip it out and replace. Otherwise the car is completely unmolosted.
Hate dealing with poor Mercedes customer servive. I would never buy anover Mer. They stop making parts for older cars, are not interested in helping to keep an older classic model running as it should and put an embargo on you purchasing parts from abroad ie. USA/Saudi Arabia when your just trying to locate parts that do not exist in UK or Germany. Parts almost 40% in the US for some bizarre reasona and whe you fill out parts enquiries to MB dealers approf 20% bother to reply.
I sincerely believe all Mercedes cater for are clients spending £80K plus every year on a new car. The newer Mercs appear to rate very poorly on the JD Power reliability ratings and Mercedes do not car about keeping their older classic motors driving and advertisinf everything that used to be good about the product.
