Subaru Forester (2013 - 2019)
2.0D X 5dr manual
So far so good ---- but -----
Only done 32000 since I purchased the car with 800m on it at 12 months old,
I had a couple of things fixed under warranty, the exhaust welds cracked after around 2000 miles, replaced promptly by the dealer.
the other issue was at nearly 5 years old when a valve thingie associated with the turbo became noisy and was replaced under warranty (part would have been around £100 apparently)
Main dealer servicing is shockingly expensive!!!!
intermediate service is an oil and filter job and can cost around £300 (parts would be around £50)
The four year service is even more shockingly expensive at over £500 for oil/filters including gearbox and diff oils and break fluid.
The service would take a reasonable mechanic around 2-3 hours, so they must charge at least £130hr labour (that's almost criminal!!!)
Now it's out of warranty I do the servicing myself and can't for the life of me understand how main dealers can charge as much as they do.
Subaru parts are ludicrously expensive, so I am a little bit scared of the car at the moment in case it goes wrong; but I suppose that's true of many models these days.
I try to use it mainly for long runs and it can achieve up to 60mpg. on shorter local runs it makes around 45mpg
it has to last me another 8 years so I drive it when I need to, and use my trusty cheap to fix, 30 year old motorcycle whenever I can instead.
