Subaru Forester (2013 - 2019)
2.0D XC 5dr manual SUV
Underpowered over-rated unreliable car let down by dealer and the manufacturer
Bought this car specifically to tow a medium weight caravan, however it struggles to get up to a safe speed to join the motorway. The car has had a severe jerking problem in low speed situations since I bought it. It has been back to the dealers 4 times they can't find a fault however they did say they had only driven it round the car park. They said that they had not witnessed the jerking only after having the car in for diagnosis three times, so what they had been trying to diagnose before I demonstrated the jerking I don't know. One time I dropped the car of at the dealer at 8.30 am. I noticed as I got out of the car that the front tyre had stopped on a crisp packet. It was still parked on the same crisp packet when I picked the car up after them supposedly working on it all day. When I eventually demonstrated the jerking, most noticeable in second gear at up to about 2,500 rpm they said "If it was me I would just drive through it." They hadn't just spent £ 15,000 on a unpredictable and dangerous car, that I don't feel safe driving with my grandchildren in the backseats. Especially as the slow weaving between parked cars when picking them up from school is the type of driving most likely to induce the jerking in the first place. Their final words to me were "You need to change down a gear when the jerking happens." I am in second year with the engine at 2 ,500 rpm! To say change down to first year at this point is stupid in the extreme.
At this point I complained to the principal of the dealership. He did not respond. I then complained to the importers, who sided the dealership. This is just a snapshot of what I have had to put up with, including them putting the wrong refrigerant in the A/C. once they put the correct refrigerant in the system it has for the most part sorted out the jerking, but it still happens when I least expect it. So they did sort of fix according them a none existing fault. The car is due a service soon, guess where I am not taking it!
I would just get rid of this heap if I could, but I would lose too much money if I did.
