Nissan Qashqai (2014 - 2021)
1.5dCi 110 N-Tec+ 5dr SUV
Quiet, smooth, roomy, and great on fuel
1st impressions of this car were great. The refined diesel engine, smooth suspension setup, slightly raised driving position, looks, and generous spec all made this a good choice. It's not perfect though. The gear lever is too heavily sprung & imprecise if you try a quick change. The electric parking brake switch is placed too far forward for my liking but I've got used to it. The drivers seat has developed an intermittent squeak and the brake pedal feels 'rattly' and it's still got less than 14k miles on it. The Nissan "Connect" infotainment system is truly r******! Ignore any positive reviews you may have heard about it. Sound quality is poor, satnav is poor with maps years out of date, it's sluggish and just looks and feels outdated. DAB reception is very poor to the point that I don't use it.
The reverse camera is very good, especially the excellent 360 degree/birds eye view feature. It's very much worth getting a Qashqai with this feature over the lesser versions - it's that good! I've had the rattly airbox problem. StartStop system seems to have an intermittent fault whereby sometimes it kicks in when the engine is still cold. Most of the time it'll work perfectly.
Front seats are adjustable apart from the front of the base, which is angled too high in my opinion and becomes uncomfortable on longer journeys.
For excellent mpg and running, only use premium diesel. I once made the mistake of trying it on supermarket fuel - the difference was like chalk & cheese!
Out of 10, I'd rate this car as a 6 when comparing with rival similarly priced family cars.
