Ford Kuga (2013 - 2020)
2.0TDCi 150 Titanium X 5dr SUV Mk2
Excellent so far (pity about the poor dealership though)
This was a Ford Direct car (ex Ford manager) with 11k miles, which came with every option pack, including keyless entry, powered tailgate, Sony satnav, reversing camera, stop-start, auto-parking and so on. It also included a factory-fitted Ford (Bosal) towbar with detachable towball and full electrics. It is 2WD and manual, incidentally. In short, it came fitted with just about every available option, so I cannot say other than it is extremely well equipped!
Though I have never been a fan of SUVs, I have to say that this car has turned out to be a joy to drive (my previous car having been a faultless Mondeo Mk4 estate which was now too large for our needs). Consumption (computer, not brim-to-brim yet) hovers around 51 to 54mpg (just turned 15k miles) though to be fair it is very rarely used for short trips or for commuting in heavy traffic. The car tows our caravan well (1495kg) when consumption varies between 27 and 30mpg.
A few relatively minor criticisms - the electrically-powered steering is heavier than I am used to (Mondeo was hydraulic assistance) and the road noise is greater, though this might improve when the tyres are eventually changed. Like others, I am puzzled by the considerable gap between the rear seats and the boot, presumably to allow for the angle of the rear seats to be adjusted. Fortunately the privacy glass mostly obscures the view into the boot, so this is not considered to be a significant problem. The dealer said that Ford provided foc updates for the satnav SD card - but then they couldn't find the link to do this. It turned out that Ford had withdrawn this facility, instead providing a new SD card in exchange for £60 (shame on you Ford!). This means that, even if updated annually, the card is soon out of date for speed cameras. I also find the Sony unit significantly less comprehensive than my trusty TomTom, therefore I still use this when towing because it is always bang up to date and far more accurate regarding cameras, traffic delays, sensible diversions and so on.
All told I am extremely pleased with the car and, when the time comes, would certainly consider another. Indeed, 2 of my occasional passengers were sufficently impressed by the car to purchase their own Kugas.
I wish I could say that I am also very pleased with the aftersales service of the Ford dealership that supplied the car, but in fact this has been extremely poor and is currently the subject of an ongoing complaint, so perhaps the less said about this aspect, the better.
