Simply brilliant

Bought the car new from Inchcape VW Southend new (a first for me). Had it for just over a year and nearly 19000 miles - about to carry out its 2nd service. Overall, very pleasant experience.

Good points: very well engineered and built - feels a class above the rivals. excellent ergonomics - everything is exactly where it should be. Love the touches such as flat folding rear seats. Can easily take few sets of skis and snowboards and leave a useable seat in the back. Or two adult mountain bikes with wheels detached. Or a pair of decent size dogs. Surprisingly good on long journeys - had a trip to Slovakia and back, with zero issues. Easily does 90 mph on an autobahn, with engine rpm around 2800. Reaches its official top speed of 102, but the driving experience worsens. Well equipped for a small car (perks of Match Edition) - front and rear electric windows, bluetooth, DAB, cruise control, heated seats, trip computer, etc. Economical - on premium fuel can average over 70 mpg mixed.

And a couple of not so good points (although you really have to look for them) - no engine temperature gauge on the dashboard. On occasions light switch can reflect in driver's side mirror at night. Bafflingly no light in the glove compartment. Not very fast on country lanes (although not really expected to be - perfectly fine in the city and on dual carriageways).

Overall, so impressed with it I've decided to keep it after the lease period is up.
