Not all good, but better than some.

From new I found the engine to be noisy, a rattle on tickover was diagnosed as gear "rattle" by the dealer. "They all do this, sir" and "It will go away when things settle down". It never has after 21000 miles.

The ride is very firm, and the engine is noisy when revved, which you have to do because the power only comes in at about 3,000 RPM. 70 MPH (True reading from sat nav) gives almost 4,000 RPM that makes motorway driving a "busy" experience.

The engine has a slight oil leak and the handbrake sticks on.

I have owned VWs before and I like them, this one has lacked the little bit extra that I have come to expect from a VW, it is much like many other small cars on offer.

It does well on fuel consumption 50 mpg on motorways, 38 around town, and is quick and easy to park. I have had no major problems with it and I admit that it has done the job quite well. If I was buying now (actually I am, I bought a Ford B Max ) I wouldn't buy it again, I would consider a Honda Jazz or similar.

Re sale value was nowhere near what the guides say, unusual for a VW, in the past I have had good re sale value.

So to sum up, nothing special, just another European small car with 3 cylinders.
