Volkswagen Golf (2009 - 2013)
1.6TDI Bluemotion 5door
Brilliant levels of overall comfort, performance and economy
Bought new iin December 2012 when the mark 7 version had already been announced for January 2013 so overall huge discount of over £4000-00. It has now done 50000miles and so far has produced no faults at all ever- I had better touch wood. I use it mainly for long or longish drives and the economy is brilliant. If I keep to 65MPH or less on dual carriageways and motorways it will do about 70MPG. It has a 55litre/12 gallon tank and on one occasion I did 820miles before refilling and had still not run out. Probably because of the way that I drive it I am still on the original 4 Michelin tyres and have not yet renewed the front brake pads at 50000miles. Dislikes- it came without even a space saver spare wheel, just an inflation kit and pump. I obtained an identical alloy wheel from eBay, but the spare wheel well which is made for other versions will only take a space saver. Placing a full size wheel in the well leaves a hump in the boot and of course since there was no spare wheel there was no jack or brace so I had to obtain those. Also of course the engine is one that was fitted with the defeat device which can discriminate between test and real driving conditions. VW have offered to reset the engine free of charge, but I am very apprehensive of this and have heard that some owners have found their cars less economical Post adjustment, lack power and can be difficult to start and go into limp mode. I am unlikely to agree to have mine reset. Obviously I deplore what VW appear to have done, especially as I thought I was buying a clean diesel that was green and environmentally friendly.
