Volkswagen Golf (2009 - 2013)
Match 1.6 TDI 5dr Hatchback
Perfectly adequate, if a trifle dull
Bought this car as the outgoing Golf Mk.6 on a PCP due to a good deal and trade in, and as a built-up model was quickly available with extra's which cost us nothing.
Build quality is excellent, no problems in running or maintenance due to a free service offer as part of the package on purchase up to 30K miles.
Bodywork good, seats comfortable, diesel engine lusty and smooth, interior cleans up well as does the exterior, plenty of storage room and good size boot.
Only criticisms would be that the rear screen loads up with dirt quickly whenever the weather is poor, and the fuel consumption is quite different to that quoted by VW, at 54 overall in mixed driving, but still better apparently than the MK 7 version.
Perfectly serviceable car, if a little dull, and interior now looks dated.
Would I buy the MK 7 equivalent ?
No, we're changing to an Audi A3 instead on reaching contract mileage early; better interior quality and frankly, better attitude from the Audi dealership than the original dealership who sold us the Golf, who then moved to a large, corporate VW dealer site, with large, corporate dealer attitude ie not very interested in offering the best price possible, just in ticking boxes and making target.
We followed our original salesman to the Audi franchise instead and got a better contract price on the A3.
