Subaru Outback (2014 - 2021)
Estate 2.5i SE Premium Lineartronic 5dr
So much going for it with one fair sized niggle!
I really like this car. It is well equipped and comfortable. It goes anywhere in a fair degree of comfort. For a large petrol car it’s reasonably economical (31.5 average and mid 40’s+ driving carefully on the motorway). It doesn’t encourage you to race away from the lights, but that’s not why you buy a Subaru Outback. However, if it’s wet and slippery, you’ll get away reliably quickly from the lights!
What I have a problem with is torque. I tow a caravan and as soon as you reach a hill, the gear changes start. There is never any doubt that you’ll get up the hill (reasonable power and plenty of traction), but it revs and and swaps gears constantly. The manual paddle shift helps with this. Go into manual and you can control the shift, but more torque and you would just stay in full auto.
This aside, a great car and good value.
