Subaru Outback (2014 - 2021)
Estate 2.5i SE Premium Lineartronic 5dr
Hugely competent vehicle much underrated by uk motoring press
Having done 28,000 miles the car is running smoothly with no issues. It soaks up the miles whatever the road. My work takes me across the UK so motorways and A roads down to unclassified byways are all in a day’s work. Then there are forest roads, farm tracks, fields all of which which it handles with no fuss. X-mode has had its moments but the full-time 4WD system is capable of most obstacles.
I rarely do urban driving so my recorded 42 mpg long-term average may not be typical but it’s comfortably ahead of my previous diesel Freelander (38 mpg).
The original Bridgestone Dueler tyres still have a lot of tread. I reckon another 10,000 miles of summer driving then a new set for next winter.
If the tailgate lifted higher I’d give this 5* but that headache is a real nuisance. My preference would be for a manual tailgate opening higher.
