Skoda Octavia (2004 - 2013)
Elegance 1.6 tdi
Brilliant Value for money
I needed to get an Estate car due to a change in personal circumstances. After many months of research, having written down what I wanted in my next car, the only car that came up as leader was the Skoda. I have had Audi's, BMW's, Mercedes and Golfs. although the Skoda is Czech lets face it its a Golf with all the German bits. I chose the elegance version as it had all I wanted trim wise. From day one i was extremely happy with the car. After about 3 months i had starting problems, flat battery. I called Skoda assist who sent me the RAC who diagnosed the fault. A long run home seemed to recharge the battery which lasted a week, then the same fault arose. I jump started the car and took it to my dealer who duly replaced the battery under warranty. Good dealer experience. Since then the car has been trouble free. I love the car, on my regular runs of 110 miles, I regularly get late 60's early 70's mpg. On one run i averaged 80mpg. Knocking around town I average 50 to 60 mpg. £30 per year road tax, brilliant. The 1.6tdi engine is responsive and to be honest all you need for 'normal' driving. Going for overtakes has never been a problem. I am very impressed with this engine. The seats are the most comfortable I have ever experienced. The only one negative for me is road noise when on rough road surfaces, It can be a little wearing. All considered though a great car so far. I would have another one based on my current experience.
