Skoda Octavia (2004 - 2013)
Elegance 1.6 TDI CR 5dr
OK car
A comfortable and economical car, it is no wonder the Octavia is popular as a taxi. This 2011 Elegance model that I bought privately in 2018 has been my daily driver for a while now and been generally OK to own.
It has plenty of electric features. Driving position is good and so is all round visibility. The only let down is the 1.6 TDi engine - yes it is economical with between 50 - 60 mpg no matter how you drive it, but reliability has been iffy. I have had (amongst other things) the injectors fail at great cost. A very common fault. It's a shame really as I had a 2002 Octavia previous to this car with the famously reliable 1.9 TDi engine and to be honest it was better, more performance and similar economy and much better reliability. This 1.6 TDi is definitely a step down. If buying again I would go for the 2.0 TDi on this model - I have heard it is a much better engine.
With all that said, any Octavia so long as you buy a low mileage looked after car makes for a great used purchase that should prove reliable and economical in the long run.
