Honda Jazz (2001 - 2008)
1.4 SE CVT
Excellent apart from the A/C
I bought the car after trying a variety of cars, but found the Jazz was the only one that fitted my garage! Dealer's sales guy was an i****, I walked out twice because of his stupidity - why do they always have to say 'I have to ask my Manager about that?' We all know it's a delaying tactic and very annoying. Eventually, I got a great deal as I was paying cash, with about £2,500 off the list price. Any subsequent visit to the dealership has not been too pleasant - as another reviewer has commented, they are arrogant and tend to look down on Jazz drivers.
The car is now three years old, and just passed its first MOT. The first service was by Honda - £178, I nearly died! I cannot believe that it cost that much! I have used a local mechanic since then for £60. The car has only done 16,000 miles (mainly motorway) with an average of 47 mpg (at a sedate 50 mph on country roads, it will exceed 53 mpg). I suspect I will have to use Honda dealers for the 25K service though.
Driving is good, as long as you don't want to be a boy-racer. If it's loaded with four adults, it will slow down on hills, but a quick flip to the paddle, changing down to 6th will usually solve the problem. It is an extremely comfortable car to be in whether in the front or the back. The versatility of it is second to none.
I have had no problems with the car apart from the A/C. It is pathetic! On cold days, it is impossible to clear mist from the rear side windows - no matter what settings are used. It does not blow particularly cold in Summer either. I have used the Jazz (Fit) in the US with the bigger 1.5 engine, and it doesn't have the problem. As HJ has said before, if they did use the 1.5 engine, they'd creep into Civic territory. Honda have been no help in trying to solve the problem.
