I only do 5000 miles a year - do I need a warranty on my used car?

I have just bought a 2013 Peugeot 107 with 71,000 miles. It drives well and I was offered a warranty but declined. I’m a 66 year old autistic female and have been fooled before and I want this car to last me. Would a warranty be wise or should I just put a budget away instead? Secondly they offered a £15 a month service package with an interim service, major service and free MoTs. I've never heard of this before. I drive 5000 miles a year - is it worth it?

Whether a warranty is worth taking out depends on both how risk averse you are, but also the quality of the warranty itself. Putting money aside on a regular basis for unexpected repairs is a sensible approach, and bar a catastrophic failure should cover most eventualities. Combine this with regular servicing and low mileage and you should experience few issues. When considering a warranty it is important to examine the terms and conditions carefully for inclusions and exclusions and balancing this against the cost.

With the servicing package a similar approach is recommended, so look at what is included and compare this to the cost of paying for the services individually. You may also wish to consider pricing up servicing from an independent specialist, and although your annual mileage is low we would recommend an annual service as a minimum.
