Honda Jazz (2001 - 2008)
1.4i SE 5dr Auto Hatchback
Versatile, reliable small car with smooth cvt transmission
I looked at this small Honda based on HJ's review and looking at other reviews, plus ownership of Honda motorbikes and awareness of the quality engineering and reliability. It was purchased second hand to replace my trusty 18 year old VW Vento with manual gearbox, and a compromise to share with my OH who prefers automatics. So far its been a pleasure to drive and I particularly like the high driving position, manual overide which enables F1 style gear changing via the paddles on the steering column, and the versatile 'Magic' seat system.
Okay, its never going to be a performance car but that's not the reason most people will buy- if you want solid engineering, reliability and good fuel economy its worth a look.
So the main pro's and cons-
For: Very practical, solid engineering, reliability, high driving position, economical, easy parking, air con (well its a marvel to me anyway), reversing sensors, easy to park.
Cons: Main dealers seem to look down their nose at Jazz owners (am I the only one who gets the impression they treat owners of their bigger models better?); cost of servicing quite expensive e.g 8 spark plugs, windscreen condensation on damp days requires constant use of air con, check for possible leaks in boot and rear passenger foot wells arising from failing sealant under plastic roof trim strips, if fitted change ASAP from original Bridgestone tyres as quite noisy - i'd recommend Dunlop Bluresponse.
