Honda Jazz (2001 - 2008)
Honda Jazz 1.4 5dr
PERFECT first car, love it like a baby.
I bought this car last summer to get me back and forth from uni. It was 10 years old and had done 68000 miles when I got it, it's now done about 72000. I've never had a problem with it; it had one owner before me and they were very careful with it. The windscreen mists up a bit when it's rainy but clears up quickly when you adjust the heater. It is perfect for any situation: the back is roomy enough to fit all my friends in it without squashing them, and when the magic seats are flat it's got as much room as a van.
While the room inside is immense, it is still a pretty small car and it's very cute! Mine is dark blue which I think looks a lot classier than the pearly pink or green ones. I have been told it is a 'mum car' so I suppose that means it would be good for families as well as students :) I think it looks funny too, the wheels look a bit too small for the body.
I recently had a letter saying there was a fault with the passenger airbags which Honda will sort out for free which is nice :) I'm probably biased because it's my first car, but I'm so glad I chose it over the Corsas and Yarises I was looking at. It was pretty cheap too, and buying petrol for it doesn't break the bank. The only negative is that its acceleration isn't fantastic on the motorway, especially when there are people or suitcases in the back. However this is probably a good thing as my right foot sometimes has a mind of its own, and if it accelerated any faster I would probably pick up a few tickets!
Overall, I would recommend this car to anyone who wants something nippy, versatile and cute but without a mega price tag. I think the older ones are fab value, I don't know anyone with an eleven year old car that runs as smoothly as mine. However, I did have to invest in a Parrot Bluetooth System to play my iPod through, as Honda decided that while it was essential for the 2002 model to have heated wing mirrors, electric windows and central locking, a CD player just wasn't necessary. So if you do buy an older model, be prepared to shell out a little to modernise it, otherwise you'll have to dig out all your old cassettes!
I love this car to bits, I'll be totally gutted on the day when it finally dies. Hopefully that won't be for another few years :)
