Apparently depicted Milton Keynes as a slum last night (4/3/24). I don't live there, but local radio's just devoted an hour to discussing it. A number of incensed residents.

I've never watched it, but will now because the story line's to be continued tonight - so it's increased viewing numbers! Read more

Are you saying it's misery watching Kat Slater and Sharon whatever her surname is this week?

I will say that Caffy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) is fairing well at 68. Must have something to do with A1 slip road activity. (Motoring link)....

This will be old news to a lot of forum members, but after fitting Alloygators to my Alfa Romeo Brera a few months ago, I've realised how little durability they have - plus they damage your alloy rims.

Living in a tight cul-de-sac, I've bumped the kerb a few times at around 5 mph only to find, even at such low speed impacts, the Alloygators detach from the rim and make your wheels look awful i.e. they wobble as you drive making the car unsafe.

They also damage the alloy wheel itself, with the harsh gripping mechanism, which leaves your rims scratched and sc***ed and in need of a full refurbishment of £350 + !

The one thing they're designed to avoid!

Trust me a scratched alloy looks better than these rubber tubes. Read more

never looked like they'd protect much and you've confirmed it for us.

Thankfully our cars are on 55 60 and 65 aspect rubber, none of the wheels have any kerb rash, but the diamond cut fronts on the 19 year old Landcruiser are getting past their prime now....

I take this route every Sunday pretty much but on this occasion I got a little stuck here - www.google.com/maps/@51.4291621,-0.1314333,3a,75y,...u

As you can see from the lights facing out most cars bend towards the right and into that furthermost lane alongside the street. It can get very busy here as you can imagine and occasionally cars do get stuck in the boxes which then blocks traffic coming from the right. ... Read more

In the second picture the oncoming bus would be preventing from getting past due to the white & black vans and the black SUV.

Going the other way the black and blue SUVs would prevent cars from using lane 2 if they can't proceed....

It never really concerned me when I went through them. They didn't increase journey time noticeably although 'bunching' may have been a problem. I don't know if my speed through those sections would have been any higher anyway. I suspect my economy may have improved slightly.

National Highways (NH) say that “ultimately, air quality will be solved ‘at the tailpipe”. Read more

According to the article I read, the NH people had no clue if of how to determine the cause of the reduction in emissions in the 'test' areas - whether due to changes in the usage (speed) alone, or an element of a change in what vehicles are used, or the amount of vehicles.

Typical government / civil service guff - no way of determining success, so either plough on ahead regardless (whilst touting a 'success' the 'new policy' that may have made a negligible difference, if any) or drop it because the cost of finding out would more than outweigh any potential benefits, and would require some brain power to be used....

Hi, would really appreciate some insurance advice. My wife (honest!) cut across a curb as she turned onto a major road, and scr@ped the side of our car across a bell bollard, doing serious damage to the door and the sill. We've had a range of estimates to repair, from £4k up to £8k. The bodywork repair shop with the pricier quote seemed more professional and knowledgeable.

We will have to claim on insurance. Is our premium price hike next year likely to be *more* if we go with the higher end quote? In other words, does a costlier claim tend to drive the premium up more, or is the premium increase just a function of the nature of the accident (regardless of costs to repair)?... Read more

Not yet. We've put the claim in but won't know until the insurance is due for renewal what the damage is.

Even then I don't think we'll know for sure what impact the cost of the claim has on the premium increase.

Just bought a car they advertised it as First reg Sept 2023. However the cars warrenty was activated on 1st August 2022. So I have lost over a years warrenty. Is this legal. What effect will this have on the resale value. Is it a 22 car or a 23 car. Thanks to all for opinion. Read more

Surely date of first registration is not an accurate indicator of when the car was built. It may have been made 10 years ago.

Just trying to apply for my second insurance policy for the year and am leaving my current provider to go a different one. Now you only need to declare convictions correct, so fixed penalty notices and fines for say entering a LTN or taking a right turn when you shouldn't have does not count, is that correct?

It's just that the wording on these websites are confusing, e.g. -... Read more

So firstly I am aware I made a few stupid mistakes and misunderstanding when buying a used car today , firstly I took for granted that the seller was telling me the truth about insurance on policy on the car, being effective on the day until he sells it (being 29th of Feb) . Secondly I did not tax it before driving it, thinking I could do it after a short drive home .. My bad.. Thirdly is perhaps my misunderstanding about insurance, you can be the jury here

I purchased a second hand car privately on the 29th of February ( Vauxhall Corsa- I actually wanted to gift it to my Partner) it had MOT , I checked and previous owner/ last owner had said it was insured and taxed( but wasn't allegedly - more on this below ) .I contacted my insurers previously just to check I could drive another car ( on two other cars ) who said I could drive it , if the seller has insurance for the vehicle , which is what I understood to be the case ( the seller said there was a policy on it at the time of sale ) . ...
