Vauxhall Vectra (2002 - 2008)
SRi 1.9 CDTi 16v (150ps) 5dr Hatchback
Worst car I have ever owned
Having driven two Mk3 Mondeo diesels in a row, when I was looking to change car I decided to opt for something different. I was attracted to the looks and power of a 2008 Vectra SRi CDTi (150). However I rapidly came to regret the day. The Air Con failed almost immediately and Vauxhall seemed to struggle to come up with the required part. In the end I think they never replaced it because come the next summer it was not cooling again (and yes I did run it regularly over the winter as instructed). The system was leaky and I am sure they just topped it up. By the time I found out the car was out of warranty. Then it burns oil. There is no leak and yet I regularly have to top the oil up. At 48K miles the flywheel became noisy and cost a small fortune to have replaced. The next problem was a mysterious fault in the wiring causing a constant bulb failure warning despite all bulbs working. Following that the engine exhaust gas warning came on for no apparent reason.
To top it off the handling of this car is atrocious and it has need 3 out of the 4 corner springs replaced. I had had 6 years of faultless driving with the Fords (which were more comfortable to boot) and no end of problems with the Vectra. I would be very reluctant to ever buy a Vauxhall again. The only positive was that I managed 42 mpg rather than the 40 in the two Mondeos. Still far short of the advertised figure of 48 mpg which I never managed to average even on a long M way journey from Belfast to Paris and back.
