When do I have to start paying car tax on my EV?

I have a full electric car (1st reg Sept 2019) and I wondered if I registered it SORN at Christmas (when it will not be used for a month) and re-tax it in January, will I get 1 year at £0 - or will I get 3 months at £0 and 9 months at the £190 a year 'new' rate?

Generally speaking, if you tax a vehicle online the rates that are applied are those in effect on the day that the application is made, so in theory if you 'paid' for 12 months tax in January you would get 12 months at the zero rate. However, you would need to check this yourself as taxing the vehicle requires the reference number shown on the V5C.
