Skoda Roomster (2006 - 2015)
SE TSI 86ps
Best car for the money, very underrated by professional reviewers
We had delivery of our Skoda Roomster on the 17th May and our first impressions are that the vehicle is well engineered and screwed together. I have just taken it down to Castle Cary Somerset a round trip of 470 miles using motorways, A roads, and B roads. The A 303 was stop go all the way down very heavy traffic but the return trip was relatively easy going and no holdups . I also did return journey from Castle Cary to Western-super-Mare, and the fuel used usage was 47mpg which was great considering the journey down. How does it drive, getting into the car there adjustments to the rake and height of the steering wheel also seat height adjustments to the front passenger and drivers seat. All the dashboard controls are logically positioned, power steering is light but accurate, seating is firm but supportive and comfortable, the suspension is on the firm side but gives a good ride even on potholed roads. Breaking is very good as my model has been fitted with disc brakes all round and with all the safety features air bags etc is very good. All round vision with the large windows and large mirrors again is exceptionally good and with the reversing sensors is easy.
Driving, the gear stick is well positioned, and acceleration is good the TSI 1.2 86ps engine preforms well on the motorway and at one point I thought I was at 70 mph but checked the speedometer but was traveling at 90+ so had to take foot off pedal. The road noise from the tires is well contained no wind noise in fact a very comfortable drive. The car holds the road well in fact sticks like glue to the road and there is little or no tilt on cornering.
One of the reasons we decided on this car was the boot space as we have 2 medium sized dogs and there is vast boot also the versatility of the rear seats is brilliant there is so many configurations you can have with them from moving the forward for more boot space, putting them down to have a large area, removing the middle seat and moving the outer seats in to give more shoulder room, moving one all or all to make it capable to take large or awkward loads.
This is a very versatile vehicle. The only criticism is that the Roomster is a 4 1/2 seater as the middle rear seat is only suitable for a child or very small adult. But all in All a great versatile family car.
