Skoda Roomster (2006 - 2015)
Roomster, Greenline TDI CR
Expensive rat hole, but we LOVE IT!!
We bought the car second hand at a good price in 2013. What we didn't realise is that cars get to be VERY expensive when over 8 years old. In the past 2 years we've put half more again into the car than it was worth because we like it, it gets pretty good mpg and we didn't want to get something newer when we are driving 15K + miles per year. Lots of engine work needed (injectors, sensors, etc). Worst thing to happen to it was getting the VW "fix" for the diesel engine ~ it never ran as well afterwards and the local Skoda dealer washed their hands of it.
Just lately it died about 35 miles from home because the oil pump failed so now we are considering a new engine so we can continue to drive the socks off it for another five or so years OR buy a second hand Peugeot 308 ((maybe SW) for about the same money. Quandry!
It gets fair consumption at about 63 MPG but it used to do LOTS better before the "fix."
Tons of space inside for tall people and with the rear seats out, lots and lots of stuff. Have also slept inside on an lilo in comfort. Only real gripe is the driver's side front pillar at round abouts and some road junctions, but after 8 years of driving it, I've learned to stretch to look around it carefully to see what is coming!
It drives and handles well and occasionally I surprise a Merc or BMW, up hill, overtaking even with the 1.2 diesel!
