Honda Civic (2006 - 2011)
2.2i-CTDi EX 5dr Hatchback
Loads of room and good to drive
Since new have covered 60k miles in mixed town and motorway driving.
The good: plenty fast enough. Economical (44mpg around town, 55mpg on a run). Roomy inside and by far the biggest load carrying capacity of cars in this size class. The 'magic' rear seats that fold up as well as down are a rear boon (enables large objects such as flat screenTV or bicycle to fit comfortably across rear footwell). Tyre life 30k miles if rotate front to back at about 15k miles. Reliability good; I have had one change of rear shock absorbers. One HID headlight igniter failed after only 3 months but no problem since. Good cornering and road holding.
The bad: terribly hard ride over bumpy roads. I had Honda mudflaps fitted but had to remove the front ones as they caught on the more aggressive speed humps, even at dead slow speed. Also, on narrow country lanes the rubber front valance catches on the crown of the road. Should have been another inch of ground clearance. Windscreen very slow to demist in winter ... needs Ford's built in windscreen heater. Acceleration is very good but bad turbo lag at low revs (perhaps common to other maufacturers).
