  I seem to recall HJ suggesting that new cars should have their gearbox oil changed at the first service after one year.  I can't find the original post but is that correct?  My Golf is one year old and I wonder if there is anything to be gained from having a gearbox oil change?

  I have a VW Golf Mk4 Diesel 130PD, I am thinking of trying to change the oil myself,there is a shield under the engine - looks like it will be difficult to get past with the car on the ground. Also cannot see the oil filter, will I need a tool for the filter ? Has anyone any tips please, thanks
