VW Golf Mk VII 1.4 TSI Manual - Gear Box Oil Change at First Service? - Judesman

I seem to recall HJ suggesting that new cars should have their gearbox oil changed at the first service after one year. I can't find the original post but is that correct? My Golf is one year old and I wonder if there is anything to be gained from having a gearbox oil change?

I very much doubt if you will gain anything by having the gearbox oil changed,but I am sure the dealer will.

You will find that opinion is split here. However, if it was my car and I was planning to keep it many years then I would change the gearbox oil at 1 year and then every 50k or 3 years tops. I used Redline MTL at my last change (Saab 9-3 Aero 6sp) with much improved shift and noise and have had excellent results with Torco MTF and RTF in previous cars.
