Having read several threads on this web-site I have decided to half the oil and filter service interval of my Renault Scenic 1.9DCi.
If anybody carried out an oil change on this make and model I would appreciate any feed-back on any tricky areas of the procedure.
Is there a crush washer on the sump drain plug, and what size is it?
What is the oil quantity of this engine?
Thank you in advance for any information in this matter.
Regards,
Will.

Don't know the answer Will but if it is still under warranty, you must use Renault parts or it will invalidate warranty. I have had this confirmed by Renault.
If it is not under warranty, I would just take it to your local National dealer who will do oil and filter change with a semi-synthetic for £15.

Look at www.castrol.co.uk and type in your make & model
Tried to cut & paste but it does not really work - see below you need 4.8 litres (about 9 pints in old money). All of this info is in the car handbook and any Renault garage will sell you the filter or motor factor if out of warranty motor factor can supply oil & filter.

I would only use a fully synthetic in these engines.
Yes you must use a genuine Renault filter to maintain the warranty.

Also, make sure you don't overfill it...
I've heard on some diesels (can't remember what makes now) they can start running on their own oil until it all goes bang. I'm not sure about this, it may be an exaggeration. And if it did happen, surely one could just stall the engine?
