Virtually all modern cars require these infernal ECUs' to be interogated using a diagnostic tool when the MIL illuminates on the dashboard. My questions are: what is the difference, if any, between a 'code reader' and a 'diagnostic tool'? I have read that in 2001, due to legislation in the USA -

this year and has been back to the dealer's twice, they apparently carried out diagnostic inspections but found no fault records. The last dealer updated the ECU but there seems to be no difference. Am I expecting too much, are all these models heavy on fuel or is there any tuning that can improve things. -

miraculously driver unhurt too! As usual because both said no one hurt, boys in blue not interested. Amazing to think what would have been a lethal accident a good few years back has left both parties walking away. On top of this he has the ECU data to help in his claim. -

and no CEL's but for my future general knowledge is there a capacitator or similar in the alternator which could cause a surge of current when removing/replacing the said fuse which could damage the ecu or other components particularly if the ignition is on? Tks
