jaguar s type - Sideways impact - oldroverboy

A friend was involved in a road traffic accident a couple of weeks ago and the side of his s type was driven into by a ford ka at between 30-40mph on a mini roundabout, his speed was quite low. result, A pillar and B pillar destroyed + side of car, now a write off, ford ka pulverised miraculously driver unhurt too! As usual because both said no one hurt, boys in blue not interested. Amazing to think what would have been a lethal accident a good few years back has left both parties walking away. On top of this he has the ECU data to help in his claim.

How will the engine control unit help?

It's also very likely that unless he has a very good independent witness as soon as the word "roundabout" is mentioned the insurers will want to settle 50:50.

If this happens and he needs assistance our insurance investigation support team may will be able to help: asklucy@honestjohn.co.uk

records speed, what gear transmission in (auto)and braking data at time of impact, see previous cases in national papers.

Most legal cover is only about selling non-fault claims on to credit hirers and personal injury lawyers so it is very likely his own legal "insurer" will not be interested.

If he thinks he has a good case we may be able to deal with it for him even if they do not have cover with us but it will depend on how our asessors view his prospects for success.

I doubt any of those will be recorded;much more sophisticated equipment is required to record all those things than a standard ECU.

refer you to a case last year "jaguar hit pedestrian at high speed in rain on dual carriageway" "data was recovered from the ecu by the police showing speed of .... at the time of impact" anyway there are it seems two independent witnesses as well. case is now ongoing so no further comment till resolved.
