I would like to know what your thoughts are on a 17 year old learner driver with regards to insurance, are you better to stick with a small engine newish car, or an older bigger car. We would prefer an auto.

You will be lucky to get affordable insurance at all, even for a Group 1 car. You can get provisional driver insurance to drive the family car up to IG16/20 at £90.95 to £99.50 a month according to postcode from. www.provisionalmarmalade.co.uk . But be aware that as soon as you pass your test, the risk and the insurance premium could multiply many times. Young driver insurance from www.cis.co.uk And young driver policies suited to 17-25 year old, discounted by up to 40% as long as the car is not driven between 11pm and 5am from www.i-kube.co.uk
