VW Passat 2.0 TDi Sport - Loss of power on motorway -Engine Management Fault - harry55

Hi Folks. Any views on why my 06 plate VW passat lost power (speedo dropped gradually) when the display showed "Engine Fault. Garage!" I pulled onto the hard shoulder and called the RAC. They came and stuck a laptop for diagnostics. It showed nothing though old faults coded included ECU fault and turbo fault?? I drove off and back home safely and not a problem since. Very frustrating and could have been disastrous if I lost power steering too.Thanks.

I suspect its a turbo fault ! variable vane turbos suffer with sticky mechanism's.

if its fault code 17965 0r P1556 then its suffering with sticky vanes. Find a VW indy who can dismantle and clean the turbo, much cheaper than buying a new one.

I have known the odd fuel pump to cause a problem on these.

Try a fuel filter tower before anything else, they are well known for causing all sorts of unrelated fault codes on passats.
