headlights and DLR 24 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I know that Europe would like all countrys to go DLR and I think I have found a soloution which would interest most partys. DLR's have always been Headlights, but in this day and age with ever brighter bulbs and 4x4's with headlights at eyelevel this is just asking for trouble. so here is the solution we use front foglights, I can find a whole ream of reasons why it would be better including; The beam isn't so powerful as to distract you. -
Peugeot 405 Battery Drain....or not ? 20 Feb 2006 (Forum)
The AA man says battery OK (its less than 2 years old, but I'm not saying it isn't, as they can lose a cell or somesuch) and that I have a current drain of half an amp somewhere, which is a problem - we pulled out all the fuses, and checked cooling fan relays but it wasn't there. S I disconnected the battery for two days to remove the drain, and of course the car started up Then, another guy told me that half an amp is normal, as the clock and radio memory use that much when the car is sitting. -
non-fault accident - classic car policy 25 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I was recently (Friday) hit from the rear in my 1982 Citroen Dyane. I was sat in a traffic jam, driver behind was tending to her child in the rear seat and hit the o/s/r corner of my car. Upshot of this is that the car is probably an insurance write-off. I have notified my insurance company, and have subsequently been contacted by angel assistance. There is talk of my agreed value classic car insurance policy - but I am getting confused, since I can't see why my insurance should be involved. -
What happened here then? 28 Dec 2005 (Forum)
m surprised the rest of the engine didn?t suffer, but since the its now done best part of 110,000 miles, I can?t say that?s the case. -
Buying Used - "attitude indicators" 14 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Is it worth appraising how many sets of tyres, brakes, clutches etc a car has been through given its mileage - to give some indication of how it's been driven? If buying privately, would you make an appraisal of the owner's driving style / other car(s)- I suppose this could be easily moderated for the test drive? Finally, do you reckon there's any mileage in "one lady owner" cars? Assuming that they are indeed one lady owner (and not "plus one 17 year old son" is the car likely to be in better nick? -
25th Anniversary of the Airbag 9 Dec 2005 (Forum)
"...the airbag was finally ready for production in December 1980 when it celebrated its world premiere together with another innovation, the seatbelt tensioner, in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class" Quote from an article on UK Motoring Search Engine News (http://tinyurl.com/atb4v ). Leads me to a couple of thoughts: a) Was there other viable safety systems that over time and similar development could have been more effective than the airbag? -
VAG diesel ID's and service 7 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Is there a definitive way to tell the difference between the different BHP models on the car, without going to the tax book? I drove 2 Bora?s last night back to back both with 74Kw marked on id sticker displaying inside the boot. One was allegedly a 2002 90 BHP and the other a 2005 100BHP. I did not see too much difference in performance although the 100 was a bit better, but it was 3 years and 30k miles younger. -

New Car ? Replacement Interval? 26 Oct 2005 (Forum)
t surprising since most cars rusted freely and major rebuilds of engine, transmission and suspension were routine after only 30-50,000 miles. What?s the optimum time to keep a new car now? Rustproofing and mechanical component life has improved out of all recognition. Even cars from volume producers will go 150,000 miles with nothing more than servicing and replacement of wear-and-tear items. -
'Excessive' brake pedal travel (Polo) 22 Sep 2005 (Forum)
After that, the brakes would always lock. Now, the pedal travels about 1.5 inches (or at least that?s what it seems like) before the brakes work properly, retaining the same feels as they did before, just lower down to the floor. You can press them as hard as you like and the pedal is still well away from the floor (about half the pedals entire travel) That initial 1.5 inches does give some braking effort, just not a lot, and the pedal isn't spongy (which would indicate air in the system). -

Not such a big deal? 18 Mar 2005 (Forum)
.:-) If I didn't have a car - and I have no intention of giving up the freedom to go where I want, when I want by disposing of its use - I've estimated that if I used public transport on a regular basis, I would be reimbursed with my annual council tax payment and more. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - What\'s for you won\'t pass you by -

Leon TDI - NSF Tyre Wear 2 Jan 2005 (Forum)
However, the outside edge of my front passenger side tyre always wears below the TWI a long time before the other tyres on the car. The rear tyres wear evenly, as does the front drivers side. Currenly on Dunlop SP Sport 01's, previously on Pirelli P6000, Eagle NCT's, B F Goodrich Touring and Yokohama A301, all of which were correctly balanced and aligned, but wore in the same way. The steering, suspension, alloys have not been modified in any way I have my alignment checked reqularly and has only required adjustment when I last replaced my front tyres. -

Vauxhall Vectra - no brakes 8 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Whilst driving the sister in law and three kids with associated luggage from Birmingham to South Devon in SWMBO\'s Vectra (1.7 diesel)the brake warning light illuminated on the dashboard. I slowed down and pulled off at the nearby services. Almost filled my trousers when I pressed the brake pedal and it went straight to the floor with next to no braking. -
Motorway Layouts & Design 25 Aug 2004 (Forum)
(assuming no accidents or breakdowns) flow smoothly at the posted 40mph limit. The two ?access? lanes are backed up constantly. This leads me to assume that it?s the act of leaving and joining motorways that cause the most agro. So my idea, on urban motorways in the UK that suffer jams, is to provide two lanes for local, joining and leaving, and two physically separated lanes for through traffic, perhaps with leaving and joining intersections every three or four junctions or so.. -

Copper turns to me and starts accusing me of wasting police time, he calls me a twit. I point out he\'s just sworn at a member of the public, in front of an 18 month old child and that I\'ll report him for conduct unbecoming. Plod get back in their car and drive off, with the copper who\'d had a look round my car laughing his head off.
