  • Jazz - overpriced or good buy? 11 Aug 2005 (Forum)
As my 11 year old Corsa has given up the ghost I'm looking for a 'new' car. The Jazz ticks all the right boxes for what we're looking for and the reliability looks second to none. I was hoping to go for a recent 2nd hand one but the high prices of those suggest you may as well get a new one
  • Does your car have legal tints? 3 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Colleague of mine picked up his newly purchased two year old PT Cruiser on Monday. On the drive back on the A11 from the dealer he was pulled over by the law and told that the heavily tinted side windows may not pass new regulations introduced January this year. The plod dug out his new gismo
  • Gutless A4 110 Tdi 4 Nov 2004 (Forum)
as gutless and takes circa 15 seconds to go from 60 to 70 in 5th on level ground. I have given up putting the car into main dealers for repair as too expensive and now over 3yrs old so out of warranty. The car has only done about 78K miles and my wife drives it quite gently. Any other advice. BTW
  • Need a fiat tipo diesel pump, 1.7 1993 4 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Does anyone have one. Found one, but then the breakers yard sent it to scotland by mistake and can\'t get it back, so another is required. Don\'t really want to buy a new one since it would be more than the car\'s worth. The old pump\'s bearings have gone and is generally knackered, diesel pump
  • New Jag XJ - Best Car in the World? 4 Jun 2003 (Forum)
JC, on Top Gear on Sunday, put as strong a case for the Jaguar as he did for I K Brunell - and I tend to agree with him on both - IK {Brunell} and the XJ {Jag} He appears to say that the Jag is better than anything Merc, Audi or BMW etc have to offer. So is the XJ still 'The Best Car
  • Market Research 8 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Stopped in the street today by a researcher, normally I walk on but today, no. Turned out they were researching \"cars for professionals with families\". First question was \"can I recall seeing a large family car advertised recently\". Well I couldn\'t, the only one that came to mind
  • Yaris, Ka, Micra or Metro! 14 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I am trying to find a car to replace my wifes ageing Metro. I am considering base models of the following a new Yaris, new Ka, new Micra (old style) or a 2nd hand Metro (M reg). To me it looks quite an easy choice and I should go for the Yaris until I start considering the costs. The Yaris
  • Mazda 323 - Accident prone? 18 Jul 2002 (Forum)
I have been trying to buy a used Mazda 323(4-5 yrs old). So far I have seen 4 within my price range (<£4000), the first one seemed very dubious - there were misleading comments in the advert, it had French number plates, and the engine was practically new for a car that had done 52K miles
  • Tappets 18 Jul 2001 (Forum)
My German motor has done a 115k (A4 1.8 20v, 95N) great car and all that, change oil at 5k, cam belt at 40k, plugs & filters every year, etc. Follow the old HJ bible... But the engine is begining to sing like a sewing machine, well slight exageration, but certainly never 'tinkered' like
  • Mitsubishi Colt - car buying advice needed! 26 Aug 2015 (Forum)
the running costs down - price range: £1500-£4500 - ideally we would want a car that's not too old, but then again, it depends on what the older car would be :) - it'd be good if it was a good looking car :) that's always a plus :) here's cars that we;ve shortlisted
  • Peugot 508 - Advice on buying a second hand Peugot 508 11 Jun 2023 (Forum)
Hi all!   I'm Looking to buy a new 2nd hand car pretty desperately as my old one has kicked the bucket and I'm unable to get to work  without one, I have a very tight budget (maximum £2700/£3000) but sadly have no time to save any more and can't work without

  • Help me choose from these used MPV cars please :-) 1 Mar 2023 (Forum)
Hi. I am after an MPV petrol car with cavernous carrying space after seats have been folded down flat.   It'll have to be an old model from 2005-ish looking at Auto Trader prices on my budget (£4,500, and prices are more ridiculous in the South West

  • Used Car Selection - Input Welcome 15 Nov 2021 (Forum)
After running an old Ford for two decades have finally agreed with the family to purchase a much newer vehicle. Going from a late 90's Ford to a fairly modern car will be a welcome change. Currently looking at approved used Lexus GS\IS models that are within the current budget which is ideally
  • Renault Clio - New Renault Clio Iconic TCe 90 or Used Ford Fiesta 8 Sep 2021 (Forum)
to be the best supermini around at the moment. However, with the used car market currently being so expensive  it will cost around £ 13,000 (2 years old , 21k miles). I've done some research into the cars I get discounts on through the company's affinity scheme, and a new Renault Clio Iconic
  • At what point do you give up on a Banger? 23 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I'm not asking for specific advice, just mulling things over generally. I only learned to drive 3 years ago at 26, and have practically 0 knowledge of cars. Since then I've owned two cars that I've spent almost £3k on for repairs, services, tyres etc.  My current car is a 10
  • New car prices - Is it just me? 17 Oct 2020 (Forum)
In the past couple of years, new car prices seem to be rocketing upwards far higher than any standard measure of inflation. It could be down to dieselgate and all its other variations, it could be down to WLTP, EU regs stipulating this, that and other expensive tech as standard. It could
  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 09-02-2019 Part 1 12 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Cleggy - a case to answer. Having some trouble understanding this. The car was sold with a 3mth warranty which suggests it was over 3yrs old at time of purchase. Indeed, the questioner says it was purchased with an MOT. Isn't emissions part of the MOT test? If the DPF had been cut in half
  • Nissan Qashqai - Roof storage 9 Jan 2019 (Forum)
and they say it should be fine but I don't want to put 2 staircases in there and find it's damaged the exspensive glass roof (Not a option I would of chosen but came woth the car). I've seen protective mats that go under the bag and would possibly use a couple of old towns as extra cushioning
