We're going away a few times this year and the boot of the car isn't larger enough for all the luggage and baby buggy.

I don't really want to spend the amount of money It'd cost for cross bars and a roof box as it will after this year be used maybe once a year if that and it's also the storage as I have no where to feesabley store a roof box at my house.

I was looking on Amazon and they sell roof bags that go on the roof of the car and attach to the roof rales already on the car.

I've asked the seller if it's suitable with a panoramic roof and they say it should be fine but I don't want to put 2 staircases in there and find it's damaged the exspensive glass roof (Not a option I would of chosen but came woth the car).

I've seen protective mats that go under the bag and would possibly use a couple of old towns as extra cushioning and the weight would be no more than 50kg make.

Would this be a practical solution or am I asking for trouble?

We have a roof bag, but I wouldn't sit it on the roof.

Third party roof bars are not that expensive £30-40, also look on the usual auction sites for used ones. The cost of half a tank of fuel is less than excess for a new glass roof.

Thanks. I was thinking about one that sits on roof bars. Does your roof bag have a hard floor?

It doesn't have a hard solid floor - it has aluminium poles which slot into the base to make it rigid. Once dismantled it rolls up into the size of a 2 person tent - very useful when camping as you can take the bag off and roll it up for storage. No problems storing it at home either.

Unfortunately I don't think the company that made it is still in business!

How about a roof basket on a ladder rack? You could combine with a roof bag for weather protection and you could store it under a bed.

Another good idea.

This is why I like this forum, good helpful advice with any/ many condensing answers from self righteous individuals.

Roof bars are cheap enough and it's possible to hire roofboxes if you don't want to store one.

I really would not put any weight on the panoramic glass roof. If you have any problems with the roof after using this, the warranty will be invalid. And don't be going by what the seller says, a, he isn't an expert, and b, he wants a sale. Your options are to buy a proper roof box, hire a proper roof box, or hire a bigger car to go on holiday with. Of course you could also trade in the Qashqai for something with a bigger boot, like a Skoda Octavia or Honda Civic estate, both of which have huge boots.

If it were my choice I would if would of got a Skoda superb estate but it's mainly driven by my wife so it was her choice.

I was very dubious about putting anything on the roof that's y u wanted other people opinions. Renting a roof box could be a possibility.
