What to Do? 27 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I have a MB E320CDI estate. Bought new in Jan 2001, it now has 148,000 miles on it. Should I keep it and run it into the ground, or sell it while it still has some value - although I have no real idea how much value? Touch wood, nothing major has needed replacing, is it a question of when -
Fiat FIRE safe engines. 9 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Have just had conversation with indvidual who claims that a Fiat FIRE type engine ( first generation safe type ) can be damaged if the head has been skimmed and the cam belt breaks when the engine is running. Can anyone confirm this from "actual personal experience" please? Thank you. Pete. -
Honda Jazz 8 Jan 2006 (Forum)
My wifes Jazz does not feel quite as smooth as it once was. At first I thought it was my driving 'style' but now my daughter has noticed the same small 'interuption' in the running. It can happen in any gear and seems to be a small hicup / miss / slip similar to that noticed when you put -
Best Merc CLK for £10k? 7 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I want a nice car for the occasional long run and holidays. Having considered Lexus LS, Audi A8, BMW 7 series I have come to the conclusion that a nice CLK in a strong colour below 100k miles would be best. But which one and what should I be getting for £10k? Thanks -

What makes a car 'handle' well ? 29 May 2005 (Forum)
Had a forum search but couldn't find this question ... What actually makes a car handle well ? Super-stiff lowered suspension & huge section-tyres ? Some good handling cars, like the little Lotus Elise, don't seem to have such a hard ride, and don't run on 20" tyres.... -
voom idle - honda jazz 14 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Just noticed something odd this week on our Jazz - when the car is started, or even at the lights after a decent run, when stopped & in neutral the revs rise to ~1500 for about 10s then drop back to ~1000. I'm sure the idle used to be lower than this (or am I just being paranoid...) -
wiper relay on rover 220SD (1997) 14 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hi there, I have a "simple" problem with the back wiper on my Rover 220SD (1997), it just runs continuously, it never stops (that was until I disconnected it). I was told it was probably the relay that was faulty. But where is it located on a ROVER 220SD so I can change it. Thanks in advance -

306 hdi and miller's diesel plus 7 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I used diesel plus with my vw tdi and was pleased with it - seemed to run better and a small price to pay for the cleaning/lubrication properties. Now have a 306 hdi. Someone told me that there's no point putting it in the hdi engine. Seems rather odd to me. Any thoughts? -
Fiesta automatic choke 30 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Fiesta 1.4 with Weber TLD carb. I think my automatic choke has failed, (difficult starting but no problem when running or starting from hot). Am I right in thinking the choke butterfly should be seen to be closed when the engine is cold (with air filter cover removed) ? Mine remains firmly open. -
Passat - Glow plugs and leak? 16 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Is there a service interval for glow plugs or are they only changed when there is a problem?. My car is at 57K miles and occasionally seems to run a bit rough shortly after starting. Also I have notice that there is water dripping from the boot catch when the boot is open.Should I be concerned -
First 'service' 11 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Just booked my Volvo XC90 in for it's first service, 3k or 3 month job. Turns out it's not a service as such, just a look over. I'm told the first time it gets a 'proper' service is 12k or a year. Is this the norm these days, and if so can it be good for a new engine to run 12k on the factory oil -
Cooling system pressure 2 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Can the experts out there (=in here) say whether there is anything for or against venting the cooling system 10 mins after stopping a hot engine, to purge most of the 'air' above the coolant? Seems to me that the running pressure would then be slightly lower, presumably a good thing? There would -

Can anyone make one please? My friends lad is nearly 18 and has an old Golf that he wants to run valued at £700. The quotes for TPF&T have come back at twice the value of the car! Can anyone recommend a good insurance company contact for young drivers please? -
Pre-oil change treatment - paraffin 8 Mar 2004 (Forum)
It has been strongly recommended by somebody who knows that prior to an oil change you should put a litre of paraffin in the engine and run it a bit (20 miles, say). Just as effective as those more expensive treatments, and far cheaper. Any views? Urban myth or top tip? -
Road Tax fine (or not) 29 Feb 2004 (Forum)
My road tax runs out today and I intend to renew it tomorrow. However I have been told today that if you do not renew by midnight an automatic fine is sent out. Is this correct? If so I only have myself to blame but I thought you would at least get a few days grace?! -
