Any - Scrappage - French style 11 Jan 2018 (Forum)
As part of its “Climate Plan” the French government has launched a scrappage scheme for older vehicles to encourage motorists to trade up to newer cleaner replacements. Your old car (or van) must have been registered before 1997 -
Retaining Reg Number - Scrapping Car - Logistics 20 Jun 2016 (Forum)
Hi, My old Merc is ready for the garage in the sky and I will be scrapping it very soon. The old MOT runs out in a months time and it failed on several points when I took it in for MOT yesterday. I'm not interested in number plates myself, but I have no objection -

60 plate Astra- two engines in two years 4 Nov 2012 (Forum)
Been talking to my niece, whose friend's Astra's engine blew up last night due to lack of oil and they had to be towed 130 miles home. When I thought this was an old car, I was shocked to hear this was a 60 plate, which had recently had a full service, and apparently the engine blew up a year -
BR members called 'scholarly' by academics 5 Jun 2009 (Forum)
people here as 'scholarly'. He said it had enabled him to impress the salesman at the garage who had told him, no, the car didn't have a DPF and he was quite right to want it not to have one... As it happens they are both Old Etonians. Etonians don't always know the meaning of the word scholarly -
Shelf life and age of "new" tyres 28 Nov 2008 (Forum)
block it! The gist of the feature, though, was that some tyres being sold were in unworn, new condition as far as tread went, but could be years old and at risk of the tread separating from the rest of the tyre due to loss of moisture content in the rubber. This alternative YouTube clip shows how -
Driving for a charitable purpose? 14 Sep 2008 (Forum)
of India perhaps better left alone sounds alot to me. If 2000 of us on here gave £100 each less tax, just for example, the charities would end up with their money and India wouldn't be polluted by 50 old motor cars and all the support vehicles. The organisation wouldn't make its money but that doesn't -

Mercedes Benz E-Class W124 Estates (1985 - 1996) - Battery Maintenance 17 Sep 2007 (Forum)
After 9 1/2 years my old Masterparts battery finally died. Who makes these? Actually, like all new batteries it gave no warning at all and on a pick-up at the airport (it's always at a critical time) it was stone dead on a hot day. Jump start and we were off. £68 later at Euro Car Parts we have -
Trading in vs. selling privately 14 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I have a 14 year old Honda CRX (93 model) VTi with 110k miles. It's been great, but as I have an 8 month old baby it's time to get something with a back seat. I fancy a Clio 172 or a Peugot 306 Gti and only want to spend £3-4K max. A couple of garages have said that my car is only worth £500 -
Pirelli P6000s really that good? 9 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Am I alone in thinking that Pirelli P6000s aren\'t that great? I used to have four Michelin Pilot Exalto which were fantastic - best tyres I\'ve ever used but they\'re now discontinued. Long story but old car got written off and new car (same as before, 99T Vectra 2.0 GLS) which I bought in March -
Number plate styles 19 Oct 2001 (Forum)
that if you break a number plate and go to Halfords for a new one, the replacement has to be in the new typeface. Fair enough except: 1. Pre 1973 cars were previously allowed to use silver on black number plates. Does this concession still apply, and are you allowed to use the old typeface if you have -
Immaculate, with excellent MOT history, no SH 27 Nov 2023 (Forum)
I've seen a 15 year old car for sale, immaculate, 2 owners, excellent MOT history, with no significant advisories ever and any have been sorted by the next MOT, but there's no service history or receipts. Does the condition and excellent MOT record negate the lack of service history -
Seat Leon - Evap 19 Feb 2023 (Forum)
I bought a 20 plate Seat Leon in November and a few weeks ago the engine management light came on and subsequently went off. The dealership today told me it’s the evap and they’ll replace it under warranty. Is it normal for this to happen when the car is less than 3 years old and has done under -
VW Polo - Coolant 15 Nov 2021 (Forum)
HI, The coolant for my Polo should be G13 but this seems hard to find, most of it is G12+. The G13 I have seen is either green or yellow and mine is pink. The car was 2 years old when I bought it and I'm sure it's the original still in. Does anyone know if G12 would -
Honda FRV CRDI - Your views please 25 Jun 2020 (Forum)
Would like to own one of these unique cars. But they are getting old now and main dealers won’t have any to sell. What are the drawbacks if any and with my low mileage should I be considering a petrol . But I do like the low end torque the diesel profile usually -
Battery charge 7 Dec 2015 (Forum)
Is my battery failing? I have a Varta 3 years old (OE) I cannot get it to more than 12.5v on a charger, or after a 50 mile daylight run. (I understand that fully charged it should read 12.66v) I have checked the alternator and that is charging correctly -
VW Sharan TDI 1.9 - Smell 8 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Car is just over a year old from new. I've noticed a warning sound recently which seems to indicate a frost (star) setting at 4 degrees C. Thought nothing of it as can't smell much at my age! Wife says there is an acrid smell in the cabin. What's the description please to the VW garage to get -
Any - Deteriorating Alloy Wheels 24 Jan 2015 (Forum)
One tyre currently losing approx 1lb per day ( measured over 3 days and averaged done three times ) I assume this is as a result of oxidisation. The wheels are all nearly 8 years old. I expect the wheel needs to be sealed. Is it a sensible precaution to do all the wheels
