One tyre currently losing approx 1lb per day ( measured over 3 days and averaged done three times )

I assume this is as a result of oxidisation. The wheels are all nearly 8 years old. I expect the wheel needs to be sealed. Is it a sensible precaution to do all the wheels when the car is in the garage, or a waste of money ?

Far more likely to be a simple slow puncture on a tyre.

I'd say it could easily be corrosion under the bead and the chances are if one has started to lose pressure because of this, the others won't be far behind

Its going in to the garage on Tuesday for annual service and MOT. I'll post the result. Yes Simon that's what I was wondering.

Had similar issues with 1 x alloy - losing several pounds pressue in a week.

New wheel? New tyre? - NO

The tyreman took the tyre off, cleaned around the edge of the wheel - put tyre back on and pumped it up.

He said he could not guarantee a fis but in my case it cured the "slow puncture" affect.

Ditto with our 12 year old yaris.

Aluminium corrosion exacerbated by steel clamps on balance weights. £20 for clean , balance and new valves.. for two...

Most tyre shops use a bead sealer compound - black stuff that is brushed on inside the rim on the land that the tyre bead seals onto.

You'd be a fool not to check for anything penetrating the tyre first as RobJP suggested.

That's where my money is.

Get back to us please.

Pleased to say I am not a fool ( I think ) I am obsessive about any safety issue. I have posted that I will get back after the car has been in.

Thanks everyone for all the contributions.

I'd put money on surface corrosion round the bead, or possibly round the valve entry. My four tyres were fitted within the last 2-3 years, and two of them lose 1 or 2 psi a week. At the moment I just remember to repressurise them about that often, but one day I shall get them refitted. It's not expensive (but it shouldn't happen).

Got the car back today - needed some additional work ( ouch )

Checked for puncture, none, needed resealing £12. Because large bill will do other tyres as and when.

Thanks again for posts.

It may sound expensive, but you can get alloy wheels fully renovated for about £50 each. That will solve the problem long term and make the car look better also.

That sounds great - can anybody recommend somewhere near Beverley ( East Yorkshire ) The car is possibly going to a young relative when we eventually change - so worth keeping looking good.

Also any recommendations smart paint repair shop ( light 'car park' scratch and 'ding' )

Thanks for any ideas
