Retaining Reg Number - Scrapping Car - Logistics - mondeoman2013

Hi,

My old Merc is ready for the garage in the sky and I will be scrapping it very soon.

The old MOT runs out in a months time and it failed on several points when I took it in for MOT yesterday.

I'm not interested in number plates myself, but I have no objection to relieving someone who is of their cash, so I was thinking of retaining the number before scrapping it and taking my chances on ebay.

I did think of doing this earlier but was put off by the idea of having to update my insurance and the hassle/cost of new plates.

So a few questions ...

Will I still be able to retain it now it has failed an MOT , but previous one still has a month to run ?

Will I be able to do the retention online immediately before scrapping it , and not need new physical plates ?

Will I need a new V5 before I can scrap it , and get certificate of destruction ?

Do I understand correctly that the total cost to me is £80 , and I can then sell that certificate to a third party for them to use on their vehicle ?

The reg is T 300 ??? (where ??? is a random 3 letter sequence , the initials of the original owner)

Thanks

Unfortunately, the plate is probably worth buttons.

As an example, at a DVLA auction last year, G300 GTD - which would go well on a Golf GTD - sold for £130.

H300 BHP - a bit of a 'cool' plate, sold for £160 in 2012, again at auction.

Still think it's worth spending £80 putting it onto retention ?

The vehicle does not need an Mot, but must be taxed or have a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) in place within the last 5 years.

The fee is £ 80 and you should be able to put the number on retention on-line.

Thanks for that.

And would i be able to scrap the car immediately after retaining the number , without haveindg the new V5, without getting new physical plates, and without updating insurance ?
