Volvo XC40 (2018 on)
2.0 D3 150hp Momentum Pro FWD 5dr
Relaxed long distance transport
Bought as a low mileage ex-demo with goodies (some of which I wasn't particularly bothered about) but good value. Bought a D3 FWD manual as Iike changing my own gears. The good points: it's quiet, comfortable and well equipped. The Pro version comes with heated front screen which is excellent. Mine also came with rear reversing camera (essential as the back is high), privacy glass,19" wheels and a space saver spare. The adaptive cruise control works well and there are various other safety features, the most useful in my opinion being the rear traffic crossing warning. Very relaxing to drive on long trips. Comfy seats, plenty of space. Practical.
The bad points: The collision avoidance is a bit too keen to kick in.The engine needs a few revs and can bog down if you don't get it up above 1500rpm. My previous Merc C200 had better low down torque. It's not really bad, but I notice the difference. No dipstick, only an oil level gauge which is buried in the touch screen menus. That said, hasn't used any oil in 8,000 miles.
Comments: The touch screen gets a bit of getting used to, but the system will also take verbal commands (mostly, but sometimes misunderstands). I would prefer a few more buttons! I've had one minor electrical glitch which was fixed quickly under warranty by the dealer (Rybrook, Chester). Suspension is a touch soft, but that's the price for a comfirtable ride.
Fuel economy is very good for the size of car, I get 45-47mpg round town and 51-54 on long trips driving sensibly. My best ever was Chester to Kings Lynn and back where I got almost 55 mpg on the round trip. So far, 6 months into ownership, I'm very pleased.
