Overall reliability

Great family car. Big, comfortable, reliable and easy to drive

We've had my ix35 petrol since early December. We moved from a Skoda Octavia estate after wanting something a little higher to get our 18 month old in and out of. We’ve had it about 4 months now and I have to say it’s been a very easy car to own. We also looked at the Qashqai but it was smaller, more expensive, and didn’t have as many features. Plus the ix35 looked better!

My wife (who drives the car most of the time) loves it. It's not quick, but the ride is smooth and quiet. It'll happily sit quietly at 75mph when required

From a practical point of view, the high riding position makes seeing what’s ahead easier. Despite only being 2WD, it’s felt pretty reassuring on the Hampshire roads whilst the floods were here in January. In addition, the standard spec has all the mod-cones we wanted - climate control, heated seats, leather, alloys, auto lights and wipers, bluetooth, cruise control all included. The build quality is OK, though the hard plastics make it a little cheap.. Even the leather on the steering wheel doesn’t feel meaty. I’ll be interested to see if the leather stands the test of time

One of the reasons for writing this review is that I haven’t seen many people review the petrol version. We got it because the cost made more sense as we only do 8000 miles a year. According to the onboard computer I'm getting about 37mpg over approx 3000, the majority of which is a mix of single-carriage A road and town driving. It's barely been on the motorway. The engine itself is very smooth and at idle is barely makes a whisper

All in all, I’ve been impressed with the car and would probably buy another Hyundai. The dealer we used (Richmond Southampton) were also very helpful, both to buy the car and after sales. After we bought the car we got a call from them/Hyundai about once a week for 2 months making sure everything was OK
