Ford Focus (2008 - 2011)
Zetec 1.6 TDCi (DPF) 5dr Hatchback
Generally reliable, good to drive generally though not very agile around town
I have done 125,000 miles in nine years and the car has given safe and reliable transport during this time. Enjoyable to drive outside built up areas but I now live in a busy city and find the suspension too hard, the turning circle rather large and pick up of the Diesel engine slow at junctions, making it risky to nip out too quickly at roundabouts and junctions. Mpg currently low due to mostly city driving but over 50 if used elsewhere.
Big downside was at 85,000 miles and four years old, when car was used only for long motorway journey to work and with almost no use in built up areas. I had to replace diesel
particulate filter at a cost of £1,300. The service manager admitted that the accepted wisdom that this only happens to cars used in town is r******.
My experience with two different ford dealers has been exceptionally good and have had all servicing done efficiently and cheaply at these dealers. Cheap Ford servicing for older cars, usually with free roadside assistance is very good value. Has always passed MOT first time with no work needed!
