Ford Focus (2008 - 2011)
Style 1.8 TDCi 5dr Estate
No frills, dependable and reliable.
I've had my Focus 1.8 TDCI Style estate since oct 2014. Bought used from an independent dealer with 95k on the clock backed up with a full comprehensive service history (vital). It's now done 135k largely trouble free miles, and as i'm shortly to upgrade to a newer Focus or Mondeo estate (not decided which one yet). I thought i'd share my thoughts with anyone who's thinking of buying one. PRO'S & CON'S=. To start with the negatives, the interior is a little spartan, no arm rest or rear E/W, you'd have to buy a Zetec model for those. The seats are a little hard and firm for short hops, however they're fine for motorway distances. There is quite a bit of wind noise on motorways although turning up the (very good) stereo helps. I've never managed more than 38mpg in urban use,or 48mpg on long motorway runs. However i appreciate i have an "enthusiastic" driving style, less leaden foot drivers will probably get more to the gallon. The positive's are, this is a superb example of a low-tech 8v easy maintenance diesel engine, no DPF fitted to go wrong. Timing belt replacement can be done in not much more than an hour and all service/consumable parts are generally cheap compared to rival marques. I've had no problems regarding reliability, always starts first time no matter how cold winter gets. as a small estate the boot capacity is adequate rather than exceptional, but the all round visibility in the car is superb, dead easy to reverse park. Overall I've enjoyed owning this car, Just hope my next Ford estate is as good.
