Over-rated, poor value for money

This car is so uncomfortable. The seats are small and hard, and the ride harsh - every bump is felt.

Bits of trim fall off and found under the seat and in the boot.

When the sat nav is attached to the windscreen, it's impossible to view it when moving along because of the vibration of the windscreen.

The car, for its price, is under-equipped - no cruise control, clumsy stalk and minor controls, odd behaving electric windows (front only), no auto-lighting, poor wash-wipe action, odd shaped boot which won't hold two suitcases.

The radio seems un-upgradable and it's not possible to add an iPod.

Dash is a mess - a mish-mash of analogue, LED and LCD, all in clashing colours. Trip computer is so poor it's not used.

MPG is lower than expected and it's hard work to get 50mpg. Engine is geared for acceleration, not economy.

I have concerns over the clutch which overheats and smells frequently.

Local dealer is expensive and not interested in minutiae. There have been several unscheduled visits for assorted warning lights (mostly brakes).

Tyre life is acceptable, and the heated screen good on the few days of the year we have frost (we live by the seaside so it is few).

Carpet is good quality and cleans up well, but silver body work shows every blemish. Style-less wheels are easy to clean.

Boot is heavy and the handles are in the wrong place - you could break your wrist.

If you can afford a Focus, you can find better for your money.
