Generally very pleased

Having had a 320d ED for six years, I wanted a replacement with ease of entry & more load space. The X1 was the obvious choice. A dealer loaned me a Sport model for a few hours & I felt that the X1 would be a good choice. As I am not a sporty driver, I purchased the SE model. The performance, handling & build quality I consider good. What was immediately apparent was the uncomfortable standard front seats. They are small with no thigh support, unlike the 320d which was excellent. I mentioned this to the dealer, who stated that he had never had any complaints & suggested that I purchased a 320d Touring. He was serious! He was going to contact me but never did. I have learned to live with this. The fuel consumption is nothing like that which is quoted in the vehicle details. When the driver's seat is adjusted for my comfort, part of the instrument panel is obstructed &, like the 320d, the auto wiper warning light is hidden from view. Wipers cannot be lifted away from the screen for cleaning due to the closeness of the bonnet. Road noise from the run flat tyres on some tarmac is considerable. The engine sounds a little harsh under acceleration On the plus side, the eight speed auto box is excellent. Steering is nicely balanced & load capacity is very good. In ECO PRO mode, the battery does not receive much charge, especially if driving at night, which necessitates putting the vehicle on a trickle charger quite frequently. Should this really be necessary in 2017! Altogether, a nice motor car that could be improved with just a little more thought in design.
