BMW 5 Series Touring (2010 - 2017)
523i SE
Excellent - but starting to age
I always fancied a straight 6 cylinder petrol BMW, and the 523i touring was ideal. Bought while diesels were the trend, we didn't need amazing economy as we only did 6k miles a year. I traded a Jaguar XF for this, and could tell the build and technology was superior - it was quieter except for the suspension which was more audible than the Jaguar.
I have still yet to tire of the engine note and the overall refinement is excellent. It's been a reliable car, EXCEPT for the most recent experiences. Engine rocker cover caused an oil leak, the rear air suspension bags needed to be replaced and the high pressure fuel pump started to fail. Given the car has only 70,000 miles under its belt, you'd hope it would be a bit more robust, given the premium badge. So you do start to wonder what you're paying for?!
