Overall reliability

A very fast, economical, comfortable and practical estate.

I was looking for a 530d Touring in 2013, but came across this relatively rare 535d SE Touring, which was just under a year old, and was extremely well specced. It even came with a full 5 year servicing package. It has proved to be a joy to own. Insurance is not high, and its road tax is lower than my previous 325d Touring (2006). It is used mainly on long journeys, sometimes fully loaded. The performance is fantastic, whilst the genuine economy is just under 43 mpg (measured - fuel book kept). I thoroughly enjoy driving it, and the only practical drawback is when travelling on narrow West Country lanes, it is a big wide car. The SE spec on 18 inch wheels gives a good ride, probably more comfortable than the larger wheeels on most other 5s, which seem to be M Sport spec. Ours still has sport seats, heads up, sport auto etc, so it seems to be the best of all worlds. The car has covered nearly 20k miles, has had one "free" service thanks to the Service Package, and the next is due next May, when the car will be 3 years old. It has not suffered any warranty faults to date. I remain totally pleased with the car and its quality and performance.
